WINTHROP – Everett Millard Day, of 114 Route 133, in Winthrop died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Dec. 11, 2004.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1910, in Monmouth, the son of Millard and Eunice (True) Day.

He grew up in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1928.

On July 12, 1930, he married Freda Hinds in Winthrop.

He was in the grocery business with his father (M.E. Day & Son) for many years, and later was in the poultry business.

He was very proud of his service to his country, serving with the Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the Monmouth Methodist Church, past master of the Monmouth Masonic Lodge, past patron of the Monmouth Eastern Star, Kora Temple Shrine, Alfred W. Maxwell Jr., American Legion Post 40 in Winthrop, and the Monmouth Lions Club.

His family came first, but he also shared his love of sports with many Monmouth children. He was known as “Dad” to everyone.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Freda (Hinds) Day, of Winthrop; one daughter, Joanne Mercier of Winthrop; five grandchildren, Cheryl, LeeAnne, Craig, Kim and Scott; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Peter Mercier, in 1982.
