FARMINGTON – Linda Mills, 53, of Farmington, died Monday night, Dec. 13, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

Born on Dec. 6, 1951, in Farmington, a daughter of Waman R. and Peggy (Darling) Mills, she was a 1970 graduate of Mt. Blue High School and earned her associate degree from Husson College in Bangor.

She enrolled at Bangor Community College, taking computer programming and in 1998 completed her bachelor’s degree in rehabilitative services at the University of Maine, Farmington.

She spent her career assisting people with special needs as a program coordinator, resource specialist, manager and in community advocate positions. She served on 15 different committees serving special needs, mental health and physically handicapped needs within the community, state and nation. She was appointed by the governor to serve on the Rehabilitation Committee of the state of Maine.

She spoke as a lobbyist for disability related issues to the State House and Senate and attended eight conferences throughout the state and country supporting disabled persons’ rights and needs. She had accomplished all of this, even though she was confined to a wheelchair and assisted living.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Farmington and volunteered at local schools assisting young children. She took great pride in assisting in the home-schooling of her nephew. Her name is listed in the nation’s book of “Who’s Who” in Washington, D.C.

She loved her cats and being a confidant to her nieces and nephews.

She is survived and dearly missed by her mother, Peggy Mills of Farmington; brothers, Thomas Mills and wife, Donna, of Fort Worth, Texas, John Mills and Ali of Wilton, and Scott Mills and wife, Robin, of Bethel; sister, Sally Clemens and husband, Dale, of Wilton; and 21 nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, Waman R. Mills in 1977 and a niece, Brandi Lee Kramer in 1991.
