OXFORD – The Skateboard Park Planning Committee on Monday continued discussing how to raise funds and solicit materials for a new park in Paris.

Committee member John Parsons stated in an e-mail that several members said they had been contacted by “people offering assistance by either providing some of the items or offering to help solicit some items.”

The committee has plans for a 7,600-square-foot park that is expected to cost $177,000. Members hope to whittle those costs to as little as $70,000.

Items needed for the park include everything from hotel stays for workers to concrete and the use of a dump truck.

Parsons said the committee also discussed a major fund-raising initiative proposed by DeeDee Estes, owner of Edy Jane’s Delights in Norway. Estes has volunteered to put together a discount coupon booklet program, allowing people to support the park by purchasing coupon booklets that would give them discounts at area shops.

“DeeDee and members of her subcommittee will be contacting local businesses throughout the eight towns in early January, with a target date to begin selling the booklets in early March,” Parsons wrote.

The next skate park meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 3:30 p.m.
