MEXICO – Mountain Valley Middle School students will compete in the first round of the 2005 National Geography Bee at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the lecture hall at the school at 58 Highland Terrace. The winner will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination. The national competition will be May 24 and 25 in Washington. The contest is sponsored by the National Geographic Society.

Open house

RUMFORD – Black Mountain of Maine will hold an open house to thank its community supporters and friends. The open house will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the new base lodge. Light refreshments will be served.
