WILTON — The Foothills Arts Center invites community members to a presentation of Theater for Peace at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 19 at the First Congregational Church on Main Street in downtown Wilton.

A talented and witty nine-member ensemble of student actors from area high schools will perform their original piece, “What Is the Meaning of Life, Anyway?” and then lead audience members in a discussion of the piece’s issues.

Under the guidance of theater director and playwright Jeri Pitcher of Readfield, the students developed their original scenes in weekly after-school workshops over the past three months. Through discussions, essay writing, and theater improvisation, the students chose their topics and created the play’s story line and dialogue.

In this sixth annual version of Foothills’ Theater for Peace, the actors decided to focus on questions like: Do you ever feel like an alien in today’s world? Are things moving so fast that it seems like everyone else is going one way and you’re going another? Do the people around you seem too busy and preoccupied to notice you and listen to you? How can you keep your focus and give your life a meaning that fits for you?

According to director Pitcher and the program’s coordinator, Anne Geller, this group of actors has a particular flair for using comedy to explore and confront issues that teens face in their daily lives. The characters they have developed are strong, believable, and funny, and the piece is delivered with energy and conviction.

The presentation and discussion, which are appropriate for adults and youth of all ages, will last about an hour. There is no admission charge, but a donation would be appreciated.
