PERU – Nomination papers for several town positions will be available at the Town Office beginning Monday.
Town Clerk Vera Parent said selectmen’s positions currently held by Jim Pulsifer, a longtime member of the board, and Andy St. Pierre, who has served three years, are up for election. Whether either will seek re-election isn’t yet known. Pulsifer is retired from MeadWestvaco, and St. Pierre is an employee at the mill.
Also to be filled is the road commissioner position held by David Gammon, who has served since 1996, and the job of fire chief, which is held by Bill Hussey. Each term is for three years. Hussey is an employee of MeadWestvaco.
Potential candidates need to collect the signatures of at least 25 registered voters and return the papers to the Town Office by Jan. 31.
Elections will take place Monday, March 21, from noon to 8 p.m. at Rockemeka Grange Hall. The annual town meeting is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, March 19, in Peru Elementary School. Anyone wishing to submit a warrant article for possible inclusion at the town meeting must do so by the first week of January.
Parent said the town is also looking for volunteers for two three-year terms on the Planning Board, and several three-year terms on the Finance Committee.
She also noted that dog license renewals are due this month. A fee of $6 is required for neutered dogs and $10 for those that are not. Substantial late fees will be assessed if dogs aren’t licensed by the end of January.
