AUBURN – Sue Davis, a guidance counselor at Fairview Elementary School, was awarded the 2004 Advocates for Children Community Service Award.

The award is given each year to a member of the community in recognition of his or her contributions to the prevention of child abuse. Recipients demonstrate their commitment through either their work as a volunteer or through their employment.

Davis has what a colleague describes as a special knack for identifying a student’s or family’s needs and knowing how to help meet that need.

Davis cares about and connects with the students and families in the Fairview School community. Sue puts “her all” into school activities as well as volunteering her time and energy in community activities like Blue Christmas.

When students, parents and co-workers were asked to describe Davis, comments like those listed below were heard over and over.

“Mrs. Davis is nice, and she’s funny,” said a student, adding, “She knows what kids think.”

One parent said, “Sue Davis is easily approachable, friendly and open always willing to listen and be of help.”

“Sue promotes the well being of kids and their families throughout the community,” commented a co-worker.
