The Boston Red Sox have reached an agreement with right-handed pitcher Matt Clement reportedly worth $25 million over three years, according to media reports.

News of the agreement comes just a day after ace Pedro Martinez left the Red Sox for a four-year, $54 million deal with the New York Mets.

Clement went 9-13 with a 3.68 ERA and 190 strikeouts in 181 innings for the Chicago Cubs last season. He is 69-75 with a 4.34 ERA in his career with the San Diego Padres, Florida Marlins and Cubs.

The deal was confirmed to multiple media sources by Clement’s agent, Barry Axelrod.

The deal will be made official after financial details are finalized and Clement passes a physical.

Clement, 30, chose the Red Sox over the Anaheim Angels, who offered a similar deal, Axelrod said.

A call to a Red Sox spokesman on Friday night was not immediately returned.

Clement’s family is from Pennsylvania and that played a part in the decision to sign with Boston, Axelrod said.
