LEWISTON – Maurice J. “Moe” Breton, 66, of 28 Ferry Road, Lisbon, died of complications due to cancer, at Central Maine Medical Center on Dec. 20, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was a lifelong resident of Lisbon, born in Lisbon Falls on Feb. 8, 1938, the son of Ludger and Mabel “Dolly” (Bartlett) Breton.

He graduated from Lisbon High School, Class of 1956, and was a member of the State Championship Football Squad as well as the Varsity basketball team.

He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1956 and received awards for parachute rigging. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

He was married to Claire Grenier of Auburn in 1960 and they were the proud parents of five children, Mark, Margo, Jon, Nicole and Benn.

He later married Cindy Hart, mother of Chandra Jean.

He owned and operated Breton’s Market, a third generation family business located on Main Street in Lisbon, specializing in fresh produce, custom-cut meats, and seasonal deer processing.

He also served 25 years as a Volunteer Fireman for the Lisbon Fire Dept., Engine Co. 4, retiring as a Lieutenant.

He actively supported youth athletics coaching Little League Baseball and Flag Football for several years.

Always the entrepreneur, Moe dabbled in many diverse business ventures including lobstering, catering, plowing snow and shoveling fire hydrants, co-owning The Swedish Experience Spa & Hot Tubs to name a few. He especially enjoyed buying and selling antiques and traveled far and wide to find them.

Moe loved life and lived it to the fullest, while enjoying many trips to Foxwoods and Las Vegas with Cindy, pulling pranks at the store, adding “new vocabulary” to the English language, playing practical jokes, running the Deer Pool at Breton’s, playing horseshoes, taking the grandkids to Funtown, making lobster stew and pork stuffing, bragging about the “best meat in town,” pulling lobster traps with his dad, summertime volleyball games, and seeing Celine Dion in concert.

Moe’s best times were spent at “the camp” in Harpswell taking long boat rides, fishing, and having lobsters and steamers with his friends and family.

Moe will be remembered as the ultimate storyteller whose tall tales were forever changing. He will be intensely missed by his family and friends, particularly for his unique sense of humor and his willingness to help anyone in need. He touched many lives.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Cindy; his daughters, Margo Fitzgerald and husband, Tim, Nicole of Lisbon, and Chandra Dudley and fianc, Dan Dionne, of Mechanic Falls; his sons, Mark and wife, Jacqueline, of Hopkinton, Mass., Jon Henri of Windham, and Benn of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren, Kate, Allie, Collin and Garrett; brother, David and wife, Rae, of Durham; sisters, Janet Brousseau and husband, Ron, of Burnham, and Joan Brown and husband, Don, of Bowdoin; his aunt, Cecile, of Freeport; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
