WATERFORD – Cynthia Hamlin will soon be vacating her seat on the Waterford Board of Selectmen in order to get married. Hamlin spoke of her decision at a meeting Monday, and said she will be moving to Freeport.
Deputy Town Clerk Jennifer Morin said Hamlin first notified fellow selectmen of her decision at a Dec. 8 meeting. She will be staying on until town elections in March.
Hamlin’s is one of two seats on the board that will be up for grabs at the March 4 election. Chairman Charles Fillebrown Jr. is nearing the end of his second consecutive three-year term, Morin said. “And he hasn’t stated whether he’s going to run again.”
One year will be left in Hamlin’s term, Morin said.
Also up for re-election this year will be the positions of town clerk and road commissioner, and a seat on the Waterford school board, Morin said.
Nomination papers to run for office became available Dec. 17. Morin said she believes 25 signatures are required in order for a candidate to secure a place on the ballot. Petitions must be filed by Jan. 28. Despite the number of seats that are opening up in Waterford, Morin said there has been little interest so far.
“I haven’t had anybody come in for nomination papers yet,” she said.
