JAY – Spruce Mountain ski area will open for the season Sunday. According to Rick Couture of the Spruce Mountain Ski Club, two trails will be open – Bunny and Barn – as will the two rope tows that serve them.
Volunteers have been making snow and the Bunny trail is ready to go, Couture said Monday. There were plans to start making snow on the Barn trail on Tuesday.
In addition to recent help from Mother Nature, the mountain has increased its snow-making capabilities, adding three tower snow guns this year, allowing the area to run up to seven guns simultaneously.
It’s a pretty low-key place, said Couture, who will be in Florida on opening day.
“We hope we’ll do good, open up and everybody will have a good time,” he said.
Day tickets are $12 for students and $15 for adults.
Regular hours of operation are: 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturdays; and noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Sundays.
The mountain will also be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Dec. 27 to Jan. 1.
