GORHAM – Armand E. Roux, retired Lewiston fireman, 82, formerly of 63 Tampa St., Lewiston, and 12 Dow Road, Gorham, passed away Thursday, Dec. 23, at the Gorham House, Gorham, after a long illness.
He was born in Lewiston, Aug. 6, 1922. He was the son of the late Joseph and Arthemise Vaillancourt Roux.
As a young man, he played hockey for the St. Mary’s Cadets.
From 1942 to 1945, he served in World War II as an Army Communication Specialist.
After the war, he went to school in Cambridge, Mass., where he studied to be a dental technician.
After graduation, he worked for Dr. Raymond where he met and married Pauline Plourde in 1950. He also worked for Dr. Marcotte.
In 1955, he joined the Lewiston Fire Department where he retired in 1978 as Deputy Chief. Armand also worked as a firefighter instructor traveling around Maine and training at volunteer fire departments.
He was a member of the Fireman’s Hockey League and the Glee Club. Armand also worked for the Union Water Power Company.
Armand’s greatest joy was his family. He enjoyed camping at South Arm, fishing at Lake Richardson, sports, and traveling with his wife in his retirement years.
Armand is survived by one son, Paul of Palm Coast, Fla.; his daughter, Roxanne Poitras of Gorham; a brother, Real Roux of Auburn; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Carmen Roux Delekto. He will be buried at St. Peter’s Cemetery beside his dear wife, Pauline, of 47 years who predeceased him in 1997.
