PARIS – The Growth Council of Oxford Hills will be staging a special community photo in hopes of attracting permanent L.L. Bean jobs.
Business owners and residents are encouraged to show up at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday sporting L.L. Bean gear and goods.
“(The) photo is going to be put into a poster around the theme Come Here L.L. Bean,'” said Barbara Olson of the Growth Council. The poster will be tied with a red ribbon and hand-delivered to L.L. Bean headquarters in Freeport, she said.
The photo idea came about after news that the well-known Maine retailer decided against opening a call center in Oakland, Olson said.
“Things are going pretty well with Bean,” she said, referring to a temporary call center the company is operating in Oxford. “We realized the need to show community support once they made the decision not to go to Oakland”
In November, L.L. Bean scrapped plans to build a 50,000-square-foot call center in an Oakland business park after learning that another company was building a larger call center nearby.
L.L. Bean company cited concerns over labor force competition.
