JAY – A celebration was held in October for Rene and Beverly Brochu of Jay, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.

The party was hosted by their daughters, Diane Degone of Wilton and Cheryl Culbert of Augusta, and was held at LaFleur’s Restaurant in Jay.

The head table was decorated with gold candles and gold balloons and the centerpiece was a unique arrangement of flowers with different colors representing the couple, their four children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A pictorial memory book by Diane Degone was circulated among all attending and a poem she wrote depicting their 50 years was read by Ms. Degone and her daughter, Brandy. The toast was given by brother-in-law Bradford Smith. The cake was appropriately decorated with the image of the couple’s wedding photo.

The music of the evening was provided by the brother and sister team of Off the Hill, friends of the family. The guests of honor were presented with a document from the Senate and House of Representatives of the state of Maine. The document of congratulations was presented and read by brother-in-law Ronald Melendy.

The couple was married Oct. 9, 1954, at St. Rose of Lima Church, with the Rev. Maurice Plourde officiating.
