Editor’s note: Every day there are rays of light that shine into the lives of people through their neighbors, their co-workers, their families and even through complete strangers. This column is devoted to exposing these sunbeams to the light and offering readers an opportunity to share good news. We plan to occasionally offer up our own sunbeams, too.
Community effort

The Leeds Historical Society is so grateful for the support of Leeds citizens in gathering on Veterans Day to honor those who have served and who are serving.

Very special thanks to the local business for refreshments. We had a wonderful turnout and an enjoyable time. And a special thanks to the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and their leaders who did such a fine job raising the flag, reading veterans’ names and placing a beautiful wreath.

It was a great community effort.

Marilyn Burgess, Leeds

Teddy Toss

The recent Teddy Toss at the Maineiacs game was a big success. Hundreds of stuffed toys covered the ice arena after the Maineiacs first goal. Needy and sick children in the Lewiston-Auburn area will benefit.

Thank you hockey fans for big, caring hearts. Most of all thanks to the Maineiacs for giving us exciting, wonderful hockey time after time.

Inger Mikkelsen, Auburn

Blood drive

The Rumford Area Knights of Columbus want to publicly express their sincere thanks to all the generous people from Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield and the surrounding area who took the time to come to the American Legion Hall on Dec. 14 to donate blood.

We had a great turnout. There is dire need for blood at this time and these people helped to fill that need.

Philip Mercier, Rumford Knights of Columbus blood drive coordinator
