PARIS – A 36-year-old Oxford man has pleaded guilty to a charge of marijuana cultivation after police raided his house and found 225 live marijuana plants growing inside.
Harry G. Richardson Jr., of 90 East Oxford Road, was sentenced Thursday in Oxford County Superior Court to one year in jail, all but 30 days suspended, and a year’s probation. He also must pay court fees of $25 a month.
Richardson was indicted March 17 after the Feb. 3 raid by Oxford police, the Oxford County sheriff’s office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
In addition to the marijuana plants, police found more than a pound of processed marijuana, ready for sale. Richardson was originally charged with trafficking in marijuana, but it was dismissed in return for his guilty plea.
Richardson’s attorney, John Jenness, argued unsuccessfully for the court to suppress evidence taken in the raid, saying the raid was an illegal search because it was not based on probable cause.
Execution of the sentence was delayed until Jan. 1.
