CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Several Carrabassett Valley Academy students recently returned from trips abroad or to Canada or Nevada and Utah as part of their fall camp training.

According to Headmaster Jon Ritzo, “The goal of the fall camp is for the athletes to experience both the athletic and academic components of CVA while on the road. These trips help establish goals, enforce the fundamentals of their sport and coordinate a balance for their academics, athletics and physical conditioning.”

These students include:

Jaime Bisson of Carrabassett Valley, a junior, recently returned from two weeks of early season alpine training and academic enrichment in Quebec, Canada where she trained at Mont Sainte-Anne. She is the daughter of Rick and Laurie Bisson of Carrabassett Valley.

Julia Coffin of Carrabassett Valley, a senior, spent two weeks in early season alpine training also in Quebec. She is the daughter of Philip Coffin and Susan Peck of Carrabassett Valley.

Alison DiGravio of Farmington, an eighth-grader, recently spent two weeks of early season freestyle/mogul training in Tignes, France. DuGravio and the freestyle mogul team trained in the French Alps along side members of the French World Cup team. She is the daughter of Ron and Maureen Digravio of Farmington.

Dave Bailey of Carrabassett Valley, a junior, also trained in freestyle/mogul in Tignes, France. He is the son of Ken Bailey of Carrabassett Valley and Maureen Bailey of Queensbury, N.Y.

Zach Brandwein of Carrabassett Valley, a senior, recently returned from two weeks of early alpine training in Patch, Austria, where he and the alpine team trained on Stubair Glacier. He is the son of Lee and Becky Brandwein of Carrabassett Valley.

John Michael Doughty of Carrabassett Valley, a senior, also returned from alpine training in Patch, Austria. He is the son of John and Paula Doughty of Carrabassett Valley.

Josh Fancy of Anson, a freshman, also spent two weeks of alpine training in Patch, Austria. He is the son of Eric Fancy and Maryann Bergeron of Anson.

Dan Hitchcock of Carrabassett Valley, a junior, also trained in Patch, Austria. He is the son of Joe and Gilly Hitchcock of Carrabassett Valley.

Sam Pelletier of Carrabassett Valley, a senior, recently returned from alpine in Patch, Austria. He is the son of Tom and Heidi Pelletier of Northfield, Vt.

Dana Smith of Kingfield, a sophomore, recently returned from Saas Fee, Switzerland where she participated in two weeks of early season training along with the snowboarding team on Mittelallain glacier along side members of the Swiss National Alpine Snowboard Team, French and German alpine camps, the Spanish National Boardercross team and professional Japanese snowboarders. Smith is the daughter of Dana and Joy Smith of Kingfield.

Tyler Smith of Kingfield, a senior, also returned from training at Saas Fee, Switzerland. He is the son of Dana and Joy Smith of Kingfield.

Benj Wansker-Kirsh of Carrabassett Valley, a junior, also traveled to Saas Fee, Switzerland. He is the son of James Kirsch and Dr. Pamela Wansker-Kirsh of Carrabassett Valley.

Evan Olmstead of Carrabassett Valley, a sophomore, also trained in Saas Fee, Switzerland. He is the son of Ken Dianna Olmstead of Carrabassett Valley.

Lucien Bisson of Carrabassett Valley, a senior, recently returned from two weeks of early season wilderness training in Red Rock, Nev. Bisson and the CVA ALPS team trained in Red Rock, Nev., and Grand Gulch, Utah, to sharpen their survival skills and hone their climbing skills in preparation for the glaciated skiing they will do in France later this season. Lucien is the son of Rick and Laurie Bisson of Carrabassett Valley.
