Thank you for the Sun Journal’s editorial comment Monday. I agree that the Bush administration is turning back decades of positive advancements in the protection of our environment. This has been well-known for several years. Vanity Fair magazine just did a long piece on the cronyism that is going on in the USDA that is seriously affecting inspection of meats and other food products. Tom Friedman, in his column last Sunday in the New York Times, spoke of the $100 million cut to the National Science Foundation. The list of these travesties is endless.

I presume that the Sun Journal’s editorial staff did not become aware of these positions until after Nov. 2. Therefore, I do not understand the confusion that is enveloping the Sun Journal’s opinion department. Please remember that the Sun Journal endorsed the continuance of these policies with its endorsement of Bush for president. Was the Sun Journal not aware that a president sets policies? Were you not aware that what is truly important about any administration is the appointment of thousands of people who implement those policies? How is it that the Sun Journal wants to have it both ways? It seems to me that the Sun Journal is getting what you asked for. So why the complaining?
