DURHAM – Selectmen have approved several year-end purchases of equipment as recommended by the Telecommunications Committee. They total $4,487 and are made from Great Northern Video. The money will be transferred from the cable TV franchise account.
The equipment is for recording and taping events at the school gym or for transmitting live broadcasts from there; setting up a Web site for the Fire Department to include e-mail within the site, and enhancing communications within the department; and a future Web site for the town so residents can do business through it.
The Telecommunications Committee is also working to update guidelines and policies for the public access channel and newsletter.
It was reported that Southworth-Milton has submitted a quote of $12,250 for a generator for the town office and $1,050 in related costs, for a total of $13,300 for the package. The money is coming from a homeland security grant.
Winterization kits have been installed in five Durham homes through Gov. John Baldacci’s Keep Me Warm project. The installation was done by local volunteers Herbert Dobson, Deborah Larrabee, Clifton Larrabee Sr., D. Pratt and Bill St.Michel.
The Christmas Giving Tree Project was successful this year, with nearly all the tags taken. According to Deborah Larrabee, bags of knitted, crocheted and sewn hats and mittens were donated, as well as gift wrap. Also, $300 in cash was received.
The town office will be open until 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31.
