PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Padric Gleason, a junior at Hall-Dale High School, captured second place with a time of eight minutes and 25.85 seconds in the boys’ one-mile racewalk in the Brown University Relays on Tuesday.

New York Holy Trinity’s Mike Kazmierczak topped the pack with a first-place finish.

Although Padric finished second, he led two fellow Maine racewalkers, Ken McCoy of Lisbon High School (9:06.71) and Taylor Burns from Scarborough High School (9:07.09) to a second-, third- and fourth-place sweep to capture the boys’ crown.

New York teams proved to be the powerhouse in the girls’ one-mile racewalk, but Mt. Blue’s Jessie Smith (8:55.76) still captured a strong fourth-place finish behind Brittany O’Brian of Bay Shore, N.Y. (7:59.37), Shani Brown of New Rochelle, N.Y. (8:16.75), and Jenn Tinnelly from Massapequa, N.Y. (8:18.61).

The next few races for Maine racewalkers will be at the University of Southern Maine today at noon, and on Sunday, Jan. 9, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H.
