LEWISTON – Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice will hold its next hospice volunteer training from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 15 Strawberry Ave.
The nine-week program is free of charge to the community and prepares participants for working with terminally ill patients and their families.
According to Nancy Greene, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice volunteer coordinator, over the course of nine weeks the group will discover the world of hospice through discussion, guest speakers, and skill-strengthening activities, exploring a range of topics including hospice philosophy, pain management, communication, spirituality, grief and bereavement, and the role of hospice volunteers.
Upon completion of the training, volunteers will be given the opportunity to pursue assignments according to their interests.
“There are many hospice volunteer opportunities with Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice,” explains Greene. “Some volunteers may choose to work directly with patients and their families while others may choose to support the hospice team through administrative assignments. There really is something for anyone with a desire to make a difference in the lives of our hospice patients and their families.”
