LEWISTON – Russell C. Perkins, 89, of Dix Avenue, Dixfield, died at Central Maine Medical Center on Dec. 30 after a brief illness.

Born in Gardiner, May 26, 1915, he was the son of Hazel Bozzell and Forest Perkins. He attended Gardiner schools and was a graduate of Gardiner High School.

After graduation, he worked on construction and moved to Dixfield where he met and married the former Beverly Ellis on June 29, 1940.

They lived in Florida and Westbrook before moving back to Dixfield where they have made their home for more than 55 years and raised their five children.

Russell retired from the Oxford Paper Co. where he worked as a welder.

He was a member of the King Hiram Lodge No. 57. He also was a member of the Kora Temple Shrine and the Ancient Scottish Rite in the Valley of Portland.

He was loved and will be sadly missed by his survivors who include his wife, Beverly, of Dixfield; two sons, Ricky Perkins and his wife, Kathy, of Livermore, Barry Perkins of Waterford; three daughters, Gail Zachte, and her husband, Lee, of Vancouver, Wash., Janice Perkins of South Portland, and Judy Muse and her husband, Richard, of Madisonville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, Melissa Burgess, Rusty and Randy Perkins, Michelle and Mark Dubois, Heidi Zachte, Heather Blakeslee, Sandy Lamb, Andrea Muse, Jeff and Daniel Weible and Ann Russ; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by two brothers, Elton Perkins and his wife, Betty, of Tamworth, N.H., and Milton Perkins and his wife, Ruth, of Westbrook; and a sister, Dorothy Godfrey of California.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Basil, Theodore and Carroll Perkins; a sister, Marion Sanborn; and his parents.
