CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – New Hampshire police were busy over the New Year’s holiday.
Departments across the state stepped up patrols during the night of Dec. 31 and into the morning.
Police pulled over 89 vehicles in Rochester alone. They issued 79 warnings and 14 tickets. They also arrested a woman.
Police say authorities in Maine had put out a warrant for 29-year-old Jennifer Massey. She’s facing an assault charge.
Police also are reminding drivers that a new law took effect this year. It makes a first drunk driving offense a misdemeanor, not a violation.
The minimum fine is $500. A convicted drunk driver also could have their license suspended for up to two years.
N.H. driver faces felony charge
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – A anchester man faces a felony drunk driving charge after a New Year’s Day accident.
Police say Bruce Rountree, 37, was driving a Ford Expedition and hit a pole, severely injuring a female passenger in the vehicle.
Christina Trombly, 36, of Manchester suffered a head injury and was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Police called her injury life-threatening .
Rountree did not suffer serious injuries and is being held on $100,000 bail.
Police are still investigating the crash.
Police look for leads at churches
LACONIA, N.H. (AP) – Police are asking for help in solving several burglaries at area churches.
The break-ins have occurred during the night over the past week. Police say intruders broke into a safe at an Assembly of God Church and took a camera from the Seventh Day Adventists Church. Saint Joseph’s Church also was burglarized.
Police have not released descriptions of any suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department.
