LEWISTON – Donald A. Flanigan, 75, of South Paris, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 2, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness and surrounded by his loving family.

“Don” was born in Mapleton, on March 7, 1929, the son of Arthur and Julia Flanigan. He received his education in northern Maine before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He faithfully served his country for 12 years, seven active duty and five years reserves, during the Korean Conflict. He also stationed in Italy and Japan, being awarded four Bronze Stars, the Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster for heroism, and various other commendations and service awards.

A precision machinist by trade, Don worked for several years at Dielectric in Raymond and Maine Machine Products in South Paris before co-founding Unique Machine Products in South Casco, where he worked until his retirement in 1992.

After his retirement, he enjoyed some of his happiest times with family and friends, fishing and boating, at the camp on East Grand Lake that he shared with his wife and his faithful Sheltie, Buddy.

Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Martha Nurmi Flanigan; seven children, Sandra Coburn and husband, Chris, of East Sebago, and children, Stuart and Karah; Angela Frye and husband, William, of Oxford, and children, Luke and Brandon; Brendalee Larrabee of South Paris, and children, Jeromy, Timothy, Lorie and Christian; Mark Stearns and wife, Brenda, of South Paris, and children, Chad and Daniel; Stacy Flanigan and wife, Mari, of South Paris, and children, Noah and Nathaniel; Douglas Flanigan of Woodstock, Ga.; and Debra Everett and husband, Terry, of Libby, Mont., and children, Hannah and Kami; along with two great-granddaughters, Gabrielle and Alexis, both of South Paris. He is also survived by brothers, Carlton and Glendon both of South Paris, George of Bristol, Conn., and Roger of Tifton, Ga.; sisters, Pauline LaPointe of Palm Bay, Fla., Glenice Madore of Presque Isle, and Judith Leach of Casco; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Arthur Flanigan Jr.
