DIXFIELD – A routine traffic stop Sunday on Route 2 in East Dixfield turned into anything but routine for Dixfield Patrolman Matt Noyes.

Noyes said he was headed toward Dixfield at 12:58 p.m. when he pulled over a maroon 1995 Nissan Sentra near R.S. Osgood and Sons, a farm, lawn and garden equipment store.

On investigating, Noyes said he arrested the driver, Sarah Burton, 24, of Wauregan, Conn., on a charge of operating without a license.

But it was her passenger, Donald Fickett, 24, of Uncasville, Conn., who presented a problem. Noyes said Fickett initially gave his name as Vincent Xavier.

After that name proved to be bogus during a records check, Noyes discovered Fickett’s real name and that there were two Franklin County arrest warrants for him for unpaid fines and fees. He was also on probation in Connecticut, and had a suspended driver’s license.

“Just as I found out, he ran from me,” Noyes said.

A foot chase around area houses and over several obstacles ensued, with Noyes eventually losing Fickett in brush after the Connecticut man crossed a barbed-wire fence.

Noyes summoned Franklin County Deputy Nate Bean and his tracking dog.

However, neither officer or dog could find Fickett.

Later that afternoon, a man matching Fickett’s description was spotted looking through cars in Carthage and Dixfield.

“Other units responded and got into another pursuit,” Noyes said, but Fickett eluded them, too.

As of Monday, when Burton was released on bail from Oxford County jail, Fickett had yet to be located, Noyes said.
