GREENFIELD, Mass. (AP) – A janitor pulled a woman out of her burning apartment Monday during a four-alarm blaze in Greenfield, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded at 10:50 a.m. to the Mill House apartment building, whose residents include senior citizens and disabled people.

“The maintenance person pulled her out of the room,” fire Capt. Robert Ferris said. “It was totally consumed. He went to the fourth floor, and pulled her out.”

The name of the injured woman was not immediately available, Ferris said. He said she suffered smoke inhalation, and possibly other injuries, and was taken to Franklin Medical Center. The hospital would not comment on her condition.

Ferris identified the maintenance worker as Jeff Budinich, who apparently lives on site.

A phone listing shows his address at the apartment building. He did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Ferris said the fire apparently started in the woman’s room, which was quickly engulfed in flames and smoke.
