PARIS -The search for a new parks and recreation director for Paris could end if area towns agree on a new shared service.
At a meeting Monday, the Paris Parks and Recreation Committee said there is a possibility that Norway, Paris and even Oxford could share the services of Norway Recreation Director Debra Partridge.
Several members seemed supportive of the proposal, which also was discussed at a Dec. 6 meeting.
“Twelve hours a week could run our three towns,” member Dennis Rugg said. “I think it could work, personally.”
Paris hired its first recreation director, Matt Shepard, in May. Shepard stayed in the part-time position only a few months, committee member Bob Skalski said Monday.
The Paris Board of Selectmen in October offered Nathan Danforth the job, but he refused the position.
Danforth reportedly complained of selectmen’s unprofessional conduct after his name was released to the press before he had accepted the position, along with news that he would be subject to a police background check.
Parks and Recreation Committee Chairman Dana Chandler on Monday said that he doubts Oxford will be interested in sharing a parks and recreation director’s services, but Norway may feel differently. Debra Partridge already coordinates bowling and roller skating activities for the two towns, he said.
The director’s position will be discussed at a Jan. 18 joint meeting with Norway and Oxford, Chandler said. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Paris Fire Department.
