WILTON – Selectmen plan to select interview dates for a new police chief and code enforcement officer when they meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the town office.
A committee formed to look into hiring a new police chief met last month. The committee chose five of 14 candidates to be interviewed for the position. One of the five withdrew their application. The new chief will replace James Parker, who retired in September.
Selectmen Keith Swett and Norman Gould, who both also serve on the town’s Planning Board, agreed to work with Town Manager Peter Nielsen to conduct interviews for a new code enforcement officer as well. Swett has been doing some of the code enforcement officer’s duties since Katherine Shoaps resigned from the position due to a family illness.
Selectmen also plan to appoint alternate Planning Board member Peter Chamberlain as full member of the board to fill a recent vacancy. Full member Joe Marston recently resigned. George Mosher also resigned his position as alternate Planning Board member.
In other business, officials will meet with assessing agent Rob Stevens to discuss the most recent sales-ratio study. They will also discuss a possible revaluation of the town some time in the next two years.
Officials will review a proposal for ambulance service from Franklin Memorial Hospital and consider signing overweight permits requested by Maine Department of Transportation to allow resurfacing on Route 2 this year. Nielsen will also report that tipping fees at the Jay Transfer Station will be lower this year.
