RUMFORD – The Le Paresseux Club, with Fraternal Union President Rose Frost, will host the Fraternal Union opening snowshoe races Saturday, Jan. 8.

Registration is $3 and begins at 10 a.m. at Le Paresseux Club, 227 Waldo St. Races will begin at noon at Hosmer field. The President’s Race is 100 meters. There will also be tiny tot races, 25-, 50- and 100-meter relay races, and sprint races of 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 meters.

The size of snowshoes for the races is a minimum of 8 inches by 25 inches, except for the tots 4 years old and younger. The age categories are: tiny tots, 5 to 7 years old, 8 to 10 years old, 11 to 14 years old, 15 to 19 years old, 20 to 34 years old, 35 to 49 years old, and 50 years and older.

Awards will be presented at the club after the races. Soup and hot dogs will be available at the club. A dance will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight and music will be provided by the E/I Band. More information may be obtained by calling Stephen Gallant at 562-7081.
