Leonardo DiCaprio has joined the celeb effort to help the victims of the Asian tsunami, making a “substantial” contribution to UNICEF, reports MSNBC.com.

The actor spent a lot of time on Phi Phi island in Thailand filming “The Beach,” and he has made a “huge” contribution through UNICEF, says a source, who adds that DiCaprio specified that he wanted the money to be targeted to helping the children of Thailand.

DiCaprio also has prominently featured a link to UNICEF on his Web site. DiCaprio’s publicist confirmed that the actor made the contribution, but declined to say exactly how much, other than to say it was “substantial.”

“He may be doing more. He’s in talks to do a PSA public service announcement urging others to contribute,” says the rep. “Nothing is definite yet, but he is looking for other ways to help.”

In more good news for the victims of the tsunami: Water is on the way. But not just any water. Kabbalah water.

Leaders of the currently hot offshoot of Judaism have sent more than 10,000 liters of the trendy bottled water to the disaster-stricken people of Indonesia.

The drink is the favorite of celebs such as Madonna and Demi Moore.

Meanwhile, Sharon Osbourne is so moved by the plight of the disaster victims that she has pledged a donation of $190,000. The judge on the British TV talent show “X Factor” initially donated $47,500, but decided to give more after watching endless “heartbreaking” news reports.

Osbourne, who earned $13.3 million in 2004, says, “There are really no words to describe how devastated we are to see this unfold. This is just heartbreaking – donating money is the least we can do. We have been watching all the terrible news coverage and we wanted to give some more money. Our hearts go out to all those affected.”

Nicollette’s engaged

“Desperate Housewives” costar Nicollette Sheridan soon will be a not-so-desperate housewife, reports USA Today.

Sheridan, who plays Edie Britt on the hit ABC show, was engaged over the holidays to her Swedish-born beau, Nicklas Soderblom, her publicist said Monday. The engagement was first reported by Star magazine.

The couple spent New Year’s weekend in Aspen, Colo.

There are few details on Soderblom, an actor. But Sheridan’s love life is an open book. The 41-year-old actress was briefly married to Harry Hamlin and had relationships with singers Leif Garrett and Michael Bolton.

“I’ve had exceptional men in my life, but I haven’t found the one. But maybe I have now,” she said in October.

Garner sidelined with viral infection

Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Garner is ill with a viral infection, forcing her to reschedule promotion of her new movie “Elektra,” reports MSN.com.

Publicist Nicole King said Tuesday that the “Alias” star isn’t hospitalized and is resting at home in Los Angeles. It’s still up in the air whether she will appear at Saturday’s Las Vegas premiere for “Elektra,” King said.

Garner plays an assassin for hire as the resurrected warrior woman in the comic book adaptation of Elektra, a spinoff of her character from “Daredevil.”

Garner, 32, is nominated for a best dramatic actress Golden Globe award for her role in the ABC-TV spy series “Alias.” The Hollywood Foreign Press Association presents Golden Globes to winners Jan. 16.

“Alias” returns for its fourth season with a two-hour special at 9 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday.
