LEWISTON – Colisee managers gave the arena’s new concessions area and tavern a trial run Wednesday during the Maineiacs home game against Chicoutimi.

Officials opened the center to work out the kinks, said acting Manager Paul Leclair. The city will officially cut the ribbon in a ceremony scheduled for 5:55 p.m. Friday, just before the Maineiacs game against Cape Breton.

The concession stand is part of the Colisee’s $2 million renovation, which also includes a new ticket counter and Maineiacs offices.

“We still have some minor things being completed and touched up, but we are open 100 percent,” Leclair said.

The new concessions area is twice the size of the old area. It includes a new grill, a deep fat fryer and newer pizza ovens and warming ovens. It also makes room for a larger tavern in the main lobby, with two windows and four beer taps.

“It offers a lot of options for getting patrons in and served quicker and more efficiently,” Leclair said.

He said he hoped the upper floor’s Power Play Club would be finished by the end of the month. The club will offer premium seats and food for members.

Work on the project began in June. The city added a three-floor facade to the front of the ice arena with room for the first-floor offices, second-floor concessions and third-floor club.
