AUBURN – A former nanny who is serving eight years in prison for sexually assaulting a young girl was indicted this week on charges that he had contact with young children while he was on bail awaiting his trial.
Robert Baird, 61, of Lewiston, has been charged with two new counts of violating the conditions of his release.
The indictment handed up Tuesday by an Androscoggin County grand jury alleges that Baird violated the terms of his bail conditions twice by having contact with juveniles under 14.
The violations were alleged to have taken place between October 2003 and July 2004.
During that time, Baird was free on $2,500 bail after being charged with eight counts of unlawful sexual contact for molesting the 7-year-old daughter of a Lewiston couple who hired him to care for their two children.
A Lewiston resident who had recently moved to Maine from Massachusetts, Baird was arrested in April 2003. During the year between his arrest and his trial, he spent seven days in jail for violating his bail conditions by hanging around a group of young girls.
Specific details of the new charges are not known. He is scheduled to appear in court today to enter his pleas. Each count carries a maximum sentence of another six months in prison.
