BUCKFIELD – The Oddfellow Theater will present a show full of shadows and a popular band on two weekends this month. Leland Faulkner’s shadowy “World of Wonder” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, and The Jerks of Grass bluegrass band will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22.

Faulkner’s “World of Wonder” features humor, pantomime, shadow play and improvisation. Through his explorations of myth and magic, Faulkner creates unusual visual theater. This process starts when seemingly simple objects are given animation and an extra dimension through the use of light. For example, pieces of paper filled with movement become butterflies dancing and multiplying; shadows take on a life of their own in an imaginative exploration of light.

After last year’s performance by the Jerks of Grass, audiences demanded that the theater bring the band back to Buckfield, a spokesman said.

Jerks of Grass has won the Portland Phoenix’s Best Roots Act for five years running. BestMusicPoll.com states: “Hear Ronnie Gallant’s sweet voice match his mandolin, … see Jason Phelps do things with a guitar that just aren’t fair, … smell the steel in the air as (Carter) Logan’s strings actually heat up with repeated play.”

The theater is located on Route 117. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Northeast Bank in Buckfield or by calling the theater’s box office at 336-3306. Box office hours are Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Fridays from noon to 5 p.m.

Tickets for “World of Wonder” are $10 for adults; $8, seniors; and $6, children, age 12 and under. Tickets for the Jerks of Grass are $10 for all seats. FMI: visit www.oddfellow.com.
