FARMINGTON – A New Vineyard man indicted on several sex charges in December was back in court Thursday for allegedly violating conditions of his release and a protective order.
Gerald Fletcher, 48, of New Vineyard, entered not guilty pleas in Farmington District Court through his lawyer, Ron Cullenberg.
Fletcher was arrested Wednesday for allegedly contacting a state witness through a third party by sending notes and by a telephone call New Year’s Day.
One of the conditions of his release was to have no direct or indirect contact with the victim, who lives in Paris, and the state’s witness.
Fletcher was indicted on one count each of gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, visual sexual aggression and unlawful sexual touching, allegedly involving a 6-year-old girl. That case is set for trial in February in Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington.
Judge John McElwee set Fletcher’s bail for the new charges at $1,000 unsecured.
McElwee agreed to let Franklin County Assistant District Attorney James Andrews and Cullenberg work together to amend the conditions of release, to allow an independent third party to pass communications between the witness and Fletcher, if that’s what the witness wants, in regard to economic transactions.
But until that is done, McElwee said, Fletcher is not to have any contact, direct or indirect, with the witness.
