BRUNSWICK – Barbara Myrtle Laferriere, 82, of View Street, died Friday, Jan. 7, at her home.

She was born in Auburn, on Dec. 14, 1922, the daughter of George and Janet England MacFarlane.

She was raised in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School. After graduation, she was employed as a secretary at H.P. Hood in Auburn.

She married Henry G. Brooks, of Madison, on June 21, 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks moved to Madison where they lived until the death of Mr. Brooks on Aug. 25, 1955.

After the death of her husband, Barbara returned to Auburn with her children.

She later married Robert F. Laferriere on Sept. 26, 1959. Mr. Laferriere died Dec. 1, 2002.

She was employed at J.C. Penney’s in California and later at J.J. Newberry’s in Brunswick for many years.

She was a seamstress and enjoyed gardening, knitting, researching family genealogy and spending time with her family.

She was a member of First Parish Church and associated with the Sixth Street Church in Auburn.

She is survived by a son, Robert G. Brooks and his wife, Therese of Lewiston; two daughters, Janet Bryant of Brunswick and Sheila Drury of Kenosha, Wis.; a sister, Arlene Hanlon, and her husband, Paul, of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Lillian MacFarlane; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by a brother, James MacFarlane, and two sisters, Mary MacFarlane and Betty Ward.
