BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) – More Vermonters are now eligible for flu shots.

The Vermont Department of Health announced Friday that anyone age 50 and older and anyone who lives with a person who is considered at high risk for complications from the flu can be vaccinated. Children age 6 months to 18 years old with asthma are also eligible.

Health officials estimate that approximately 100,000 doses of vaccine have come into the state to date. A survey of health care providers last week showed that a limited supply of the vaccine remains.

Flu cases and outbreaks are being reported around the state. The influenza season usually begins in December or January, and may continue through April.

Flu shot clinics for adults are being held in some locations. To find out where to get a flu shot, check the Health Department’s web site at www.healthyvermonters.info or call the flu shot information line at (800) 695-0022 during regular business hours.
