NORWAY – Meeting Other Moms gatherings, to be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. every Thursday, will get under way on Jan. 13 and run to May 28 at the Fare Share Commons, 443 Main St. A $1 donation is requested for the use of the space.

Moms, babies, siblings, expectant moms and their family and friends are welcome to discuss mothering concerns and share in celebrations.

The meetings provide mothers with safe space and positive role models to help develop self-confidence as women and mothers and expand their parenting skills. Breastfeeding is a natural process, but it is not instinctive. Meeting other moms who are breastfeeding can be helpful and reassuring.

The meetings are facilitated by Marty Elkin, RN, a certified lactation consultant who has been assisting mothers and babies with breastfeeding for many years.

She has had years experience as an educator for maternity nursing for student nurses at several community colleges. She has been providing lactation services independently since January 2003. For more information call 388-2979 or 212-4058.

The group’s vision is for babies to breastfeed exclusively for six months and continuing for as long as mother and baby desire..

The goal is to provide a safe place to celebrate achievements as mothers and share concerns about breastfeeding and parenting issues; to enhance women’s confidence in themselves as mothers, through skill acquisition, community networks and positive role models; to create an awareness in the community of the importance of human milk, breastfeeding and nurturing; and to work with health professionals and others in the community to provide an optimum environment for women to establish and continue breastfeeding.
