RUMFORD – Anthony J. Gallant, 77, died Monday, Jan. 10, at the Rumford Hospital, in Rumford. He had made his home on Pine Street, in Rumford.
He was born in Rumford, on Dec. 14, 1927, the son of Andrew and Emma (Arsenault) Gallant, and had attended Rumford schools.
During World War II, he served in the United States Coast Guard, with the Merchant Marines. He also worked as a truck and bus driver for the Western Maine Transportation and Adult Activity Center.
He was a member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion, LeParesseux Snowshoe Club, and the Rumford Falls Aerie 1248, F.O.E.
He was married in Bridgeport, Conn., on July 28, 1962, to the former Beverly Daniels of Rumford, who survives him. Other survivors include two sons, David A. Gallant and wife, Kelley, of West Haven, Conn., and Richard B. Gallant of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Deborah A. Gallant of Dixfield; a grandson, Anthony Gallant of Dixfield; step-grandchildren Holly and Christopher Brown of West Haven, Conn.; three brothers, Fidele Gallant and wife, Marion, of St. John, New Brunswick, Andrew Gallant, Jr. of Rumford, and Raymond Gallant of Kissimmee, Fla.; and a sister, Rita Pasquine and husband, Fred, of Millinocket.
He was predeceased by brothers Emile and Leo; and sisters, Theresa and Dorothy.
