JAY – Hazel Tweedie, 87, of Hyde Road, Jay, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 9 of cancer, in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love and care of her family.

She was born in Livermore Falls, on Oct. 19, 1917, a daughter of Bert and Mary Stenberg King. The family moved to Berlin, N.H., where she lived until the age of 12, at which time they relocated to Jay.

During her young life, Hazel played the saxophone for her family’s enjoyment while her siblings sang, played the piano, and harmonica.

She was married to James Tweedie on Sept. 4, 1943 in Wiscasset and became widowed in 1962. She worked in area shoe factories for many years.

Before her health failed, she enjoyed shopping, gardening, attending senior citizen functions, bus trips, and debating politics with family and friends. She attended Jay Baptist Church. She especially enjoyed being actively involved in the care and lives of her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Dunn and husband, David, of Greenville and North Jay, and Valerie Bernard of Jay; five grandchildren, Tammy Hall-Eldredge and husband, Will, Carol Hall-Walker and husband, Andy, Kathy Stevens and husband, David, James Dunn and wife, Diane, and Jenny Collins; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman King and wife, Mary, of Livermore Falls and Florida; and a sister, Norma Lucarelli of Jay.

She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Carroll Hall; two brothers, Fred and George (Bill) King; three sisters, Delma Given, Jackie and Evie King; and a son-in-law, Peter Bernard.
