RUMFORD – Marguerite L. Hussey, the oldest resident of Peru, died Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Rumford Community Home where on Nov. 6, 2004, she celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends.
She was born on Nov. 6, 1904, in Peru, a daughter of Leroy O. and Betsy (Purington) Babb. She attended Peru and Canton schools, graduating from Canton High School.
In June of 1924, she married Wilbur P. Hussey. They were married for 64 years when he died in Aug. of 1988.
She was a homemaker all of her life, and she enjoyed fishing with her husband at their camp in Rangeley. Her gardens, birds, raspberries and flowers gave her great pleasure. She also enjoyed her daily debates with her son-in-law.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Knox and her husband, Warren, of Peru; granddaughters, Cyndi Hanmer and her husband, Jim, of Dixfield, and Rachel Meisner of Mexico; grandson Tim Knox and his wife, Carrie, of Peru; eight great-grandchildren, Travis, Jared and Sheena Hamner, Shira (Hanmer) Waite and her husband, Micheal, Ben and Josh Meisner, Andy and Audrie Knox; one great-grandson, Cody Hanmer; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Gladys Knox, and Evelyn Russell; and a grandson-in-law, Kerry Meisner.
