LISBON – Lisbon Adult Education registration will begin Wednesday, Jan. 12, for the spring semester, which will start Jan. 24.

Academic courses, which will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. for 15 weeks, will include Conceptual Physics, starting Jan. 26; Algebra I, Jan. 25; and Biology with Lab, Jan. 24. All three meet college prerequisite requirements and may also be used for high school diploma credit.

Maine Literature will start Jan. 25, meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. Accounting II will meet for 10 weeks starting Jan. 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. Accounting and Algebra will be offered as part of an articulation agreement with Central Maine Community College and may be taken for college credit.

College prep courses are offered for adults who are planning to return to college and who need refresher courses. Math Refresher will begin Jan. 25 and English Refresher on Jan. 26. Both classes meet for eight weeks from 6 to 8 p.m.

Computer and vocational courses include Keyboarding, which will start Jan. 26; Computers for Complete Beginners, March 10; Introduction to Office, March 10; and Intermediate Word, Jan. 25.

An Interpersonal Business Communications class will be offered with the objective of helping students learn to effectively persuade and motivate others, deal with difficult people and project the right image. The class will begin Jan. 25.

A substitute teaching course will start March 1 and a Web Page Authoring course will start Feb. 1, which will include the design of Web pages and creation of a Web site.

A medical terminology class will start March 2 and will run for 10 weeks. It is designed for individuals who work in health care or who would like to make a career change into the health care field. An American Red Cross First Aid/CPR course will start Feb. 7.

Fitness offerings will include aerobics on Monday and Wednesday starting Jan. 25 and Beginning and Continuing Yoga on Feb. 1.

Family craft classes will be offered for the spring holidays. The classes are designed for children ages 4 through 12 who are accompanied by a parent, grandparent or guardian. The first of the series will be the Family Valentine Workshop on Feb. 9. Early registration is recommended.

A basic drawing class will start Jan. 25. It will explore a variety of subjects based upon student interest. Students may work in pencil, charcoal or ink. A photography class in black-and-white processing and printing will start March 2. A class in Pysanka, Ukrainian egg decorating, will be offered starting March 10.

A Writing Fiction Workshop will start Jan. 27 and a conversational French class will be offered March 1. An American Red Cross certified baby-sitting class will start Feb. 3. For those who would like an opportunity to have a good discussion class, Introduction to Philosophy will start March 1.

The Smart Meals Busy Families class, provided by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, will start Feb. 1. Another course provided by the Cooperative Extension will be Enhancing Your Backyard Habitat, which will start on March 3. The class teaches ways to attract wildlife while adding to the beauty of home landscape. Gardening classes offered later in the spring will include growing roses in Maine and Grow Your Own Organic Garden.

General Educational Development testing will be offered from 2:30 to 5 p.m. or 6 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. GED Prep will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Students must be at least 18 to begin testing.

Accommodations in testing are available for adults with documented disabilities. Adult Basic Education will be offered for adults who have difficulty with reading, writing, math or speaking English. A Lisbon High School diploma program is available for adults who seek to earn a high school diploma.
