LISBON – Mary Gladys Stinchfield, 94, died peacefully at her home on Jan. 10.
She was born in Lisbon, on Oct. 27, 1910, the daughter of Eugene and Carrie (Bretton) Stinchfield.
She was educated in the public schools of Lisbon, graduating from Lisbon High School in 1928. She later graduated from the Maine School of Commerce in Auburn, earning an A.B. degree in secretarial science. She was employed for many years as a secretary and Ophthalmological Assistant to Dr. A. Grant of Auburn, and later for the American Optical Company of Lewiston.
Following her retirement, she lived a quiet life of gardening, bird watching, and keeping close contact with her extended family. She also enjoyed being a member of the Lisbon Free Baptist Church, and the Women’s Literary Union of Auburn. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include one brother, Arnold R. Stinchfield of Lisbon; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was predeceased by four sisters, Effie, Elizabeth, Florence and Evelyn; and three brothers, Kenneth, Chester and Stanley.
