NEW YORK – Leon G. Thibeault, 61, a longtime resident of Manhattan, N.Y., formerly of Lewiston and Caribou, passed away Dec. 31, 2004, at Cabrini Hospital in Manhattan, N.Y., following a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Fort Kent, Nov. 25, 1943, the son of Leo and Leona (Dufour) Thibeault. He was educated in Caribou schools.

He had worked in the local bakeries of Lewiston and a number of years as a truck driver. He enjoyed wood carving miniature furniture and had the nickname of “the wood carver,” among his friends.

Survivors include his mother, Leona Pelky (Dufour) and stepfather, Gene, of Greenbush; three brothers, Roland Thibeault of Indianapolis, Ind., Romeo Thibeault of Raleigh, N.C. and Jean-Paul Thibeault of Litchfield; two sisters, Jeanette Bell of Tavares, Fla. and Marie Thibeault of Caribou; a foster brother, Ervin Michauld of Alamogordo, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his foster parents, Victor, in 1982, and Marian, in 1974, Chalou of Caribou; his father, Leo, in 2003; a foster sister, Susan Chalou, in 1965; and two foster brothers, Wilbert and Raymond Michauld.
