TAUNTON, Mass. – William J. O’Hara, 92, of South Paris died Monday, Jan. 10, at Morton Hospital in Taunton, Mass.

He was born Sept. 21, 1912, in Boston, Mass., the son of William Parnell and Rose L. Crowley O’Hara.

He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was assigned to the military district of Washington, guarding the White House. He worked for 25 years for the governement in various departments, retiring as a driver for the U.S. Air Force.

He and his wife worked 5 years as caretakers on the estate of Dr. George Gallup in Princeton, N.J.

He was an avid sports fan and golfer, and in his younger years he played minor league baseball. He worked at Paris Hill Country Club until September of 2004.

He was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norway and a lifetime member of the D.A.V. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and had been to many countries. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith Niskanen; two sons, John W. and his wife, Donna, of Austin, Texas, and Michael E. and his wife, Barbara, of Silver Spring, Md.; a daughter, Francine Ayers and her husband, John, of Lakeville, Mass.; four grandchildren, Thomas Hughes of Boston, Mass., Kellie Hughes of Brookline, Mass., Kara Ayers of New Bedford, Mass., and Seann Ayers of Tempe, Ariz.; two step-grandsons, Christopher J. Ayers and his wife, Donna, of Stoughton, Mass., and Stephen F. Ayers and his wife, Ronica, of Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Razelle and Mars McCarrick; and four step-great-grandchildren, Morgan, Rhiannon, Liam and Sydney Ayers; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and John; and four sisters, Helen O’Hara, Jane Dougherty, Rose Mary Ford, and Elizabeth O’Hare.
