LEWISTON – Seven teenagers from New Beginnings, the Lewiston Auburn Islamic Center, the Calvary Teen Group and Lots to Gardens will perform skits on racism as part of a Martin Luther King Day celebration.

With help from local actors and musicians, the teens will use music, interactive theater, poetry and puppetry to addresses racism and other issues that can divide a community. The performers hope to show the roles that each person plays in making a community healthy.

The teenagers received a $500 grant from the Commission for Community Service to put on the performances. The grant helped pay for props and other materials.

The 20-minute performance will premiere at the Many and One Coalition’s kick-off festival at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Multi-Purpose Center. The event will be free and open to the public.

Next week, the group will perform at Longley and Farwell elementary schools and at the Multi-Purpose Center’s after-school program.
