I saw in the paper that the U.S. is a leader in giving money to the tsunami victims and across the page was an article on the federal government cutting money for low-income housing.

What’s wrong with this picture?

This country has plenty of money to rebuild Iraq and money to help victims in other countries, but there is no money for our own?

Our people should come first. We are the richest country and yet people are homeless, kids are starving and old people have to choose between medication and food, and some can’t afford to be warm. There are no funds to help these people, but we can blow up part of a country and rebuild it better than it was. There’s plenty of money for that. The ironic thing is they hate us and don’t want our help.

I would like to see the politicians live the way I see people living for one month. I bet there would be changes fast if they did.

I know what they’ll say. They can get food stamps, which supplement income. How many more people will be left homeless because the government cut money for housing? I’m sure it was no one’s dream to be homeless, or to put their children to bed hungry because there’s no food.

Our country isn’t letting our people down. The people running the country are letting our people down.
