MEXICO CITY – He doesn’t have planes or gate leases yet, but a 28-year-old Fort Worth entrepreneur does have a bold plan to start a low-fare airline serving the U.S.-Mexico market.

Ash R. Huzenlaub founded Mexus Airlines Inc. last year, planning to model Mexus after low-frills European carriers such as Ryanair and easyJet. He hopes raise $40 million to $50 million in startup financing and have planes in the air by December.

Some possible initial routes: Dallas-Fort Worth to Mexico City, and Dallas-Forth Worth to Guadalajara.

“Our goal is to be the low-cost carrier for the millions of people who can’t afford to go to Mexico or come to the United States,” said Huzenlaub, a Texas Christian University business graduate who heads holding company Ashco Group LLC.

Mexus is still just a plan, analysts cautioned.

There’s no guarantee that it will obtain financing or regulatory clearance.

In addition, the Mexican airline sector is due for a shakeup this year as the government prepares to privatize leading airlines AeroMexico and Mexicana.
