I read the entire Thornburgh-Boccardi Report on “Rathergate.” It’s clear Sun Journal editors did not. I expect no less from a paper whose executive editor labels all who fail to accept his world view as “red-state ayatollahs.” (Amazing how an editor can label half his readership as stupid or evil and get away with it.)

The report stops shy of stating the Rathergate documents are forgeries, yet it lays out the evidence and allows us to draw our own conclusions. Let’s ignore the noted producer’s e-mails suggesting the “unimpeachable” source of these documents be paid with a lucrative book deal.

A major news organization used documents it knew were forged in an attempt to alter a presidential election. This is likely criminal behavior on par with the sleazy tactics Nixon and his henchmen employed. Is it any wonder traditional media more and more often merely preach to the choir while thoughtful people turn to Fox News and bloggers for a breath of honesty?

For those strident, holier-than-thou leftists who might point to President Bush’s so-called lies about Iraq, I invite them to read the actual texts of his State of the Union speech, Colin Powell’s address to the United Nations and Tony Blair’s address to Parliament, sans media spin.

In spite of Democratic dogma to the contrary, most Americans are smart enough to understand these texts unfiltered through a Rather-Rhoades-et.al. spin-prism.
