MEXICO – A group of Boy Scouts canvassed area towns last week to gather returnable bottles as a fund-raiser to help tsunami victims.

Assistant Scoutmaster Gena Cloutier said the boys collected $306, between the returnable-bottle deposits and donations.

“Everybody we went to gave us bottles or cash,” said Cloutier.

The funds will be funneled to the victims through the Salvation Army, she said.

Boys from Troop 544 who participated in Saturday’s bottle drive were: Zack Cannon, Brandyn Cloutier, Ben Harlow, Joel Cloutier, Justin Richards, Kevin White and Nick Harlow.

Accompanying the boys were Cloutier, Scoutmaster Ernie Cloutier and parents Bill Richards and Jeff Harlow.

Cloutier said former Scoutmaster Leon Bucher suggested the idea.
