Dear Sun Spots: Where would one go to get ice skates sharpened in Lewiston or Auburn? – B.J.B., Lewiston.
Answer: There are two places in the area that do skate sharpening: Gee and Bee Sporting Goods, 190 Mount Auburn Ave, Auburn, across from Home Depot, (207) 784-4933; they charge $3 per pair and $5 per pair if brand-new and not purchased from them; and Play It Again Sports, 250 Center St., Auburn, (207) 777-7427, which charges $3 per pair.

Dear Sun Spots: A while back on Channel 6, there was a story about the Polar Express in New Hampshire. A comment was made that people are allowed to go on it by way of a lottery. The money collected goes to different organizations. I was wondering how one would go about getting into the lottery.
Also, there was a Debbie Cupo who showed different crafts and decorations on the TV show “207.” Is she related to Joe Cupo? I know that Sharon Rose and Chris Rose are married, and Cindy Williams and Lee Nelson are, too. Are there any other members of Channel 6 who are married? Also, Shannon Moss recently had a baby. Did she have a boy or girl?
Answer: The Mountain View Resort in New Hampshire is a sponsor of The Polar Express and, according to its Web site at www.redjacketmountainview.com, the Polar Express is the major fund-raiser for the Believe in Books Literary Foundation. Because of the event’s popularity, tickets are only available through a lottery system. The lottery deadline was Sept. 30.
Mark your calendar and try again this year so you might be the lucky recipient and experience a magical evening train ride, a sea of elves and of course Santa himself. Aboard the train, chefs serve cocoa “as thick and rich as melted chocolate bars” and “candy with nougat centers as white as snow.” According to the Polar Express Web site at www.polarexpress.org, the Polar Express is a magical journey to the North Pole that departs each December from the center of North Conway village. The adventure is a rendition of the children’s book “The Polar Express” written by Chris Van Allsburg and published by the Houghton Mifflin.
In answer to your WCSH Channel 6 questions, the station General Manager Steve Thaxton said, “Indeed, Debbie Cupo is married to ‘News Center’ meteorologist Joe Cupo. Debbie is also the owner of Maine Wreath and Flower, which has a retail store in Freeport. Debbie works for us as a contributor on various WCSH 6 programs, demonstrating decorating, crafts and flower arrangements, and has for a number of years.”
In addition, he said, “Morning report anchor Sharon Rose is married to reporter Chris Rose and anchors Lee Nelson and Cindy Williams are married, as well. A number of other “off-air” staff members are married at ‘News Center,’ too.”
And congratulations are in order for Shannon Moss and her husband, Andy, who are proud parents of a baby boy. Congratulations, Shannon and Andy!
